Toronto-based consultants Ross Slater and Wayne Smith have been using Kolbe since 1994 to help businesses reach further. Nearly 25 years later, Kolbe Corp has recognized their achievements with the 2018 Conative Excellence Professional Award. The winning criteria include expertise in Kolbe Theory, impact on clients and voting from a panel of 96 other consultants.

“Wayne and Ross are powerful ambassadors for our mission at Kolbe Corp — understanding instinctive strengths to improve lives,” said David Kolbe, CEO of Kolbe Corp. “Their passion for communication shows in the tens of thousands of lives they have reached and helped to grow.”

Ross Slater was introduced to Kolbe by colleagues at Strategic Coach, where he worked as a coach and management consultant for entrepreneurs. He became a Kolbe Certified™ Consultant in 1996, one of the first 25 people to achieve that distinction.

“Becoming Kolbe Certified was an amazing gift,” said Slater. “Kolbe taught me how to use my unique talents and apply them to helping others.”

Wayne Smith encountered Kolbe in 2004 through Slater, his future husband. Smith had spent decades in executive roles in the financial and retail sectors. When he and Slater met they used Kolbe to build their lives and a new business together. The company they founded, Reach Capabilities Inc., has cultivated capabilities in hundreds of organizations, ranging from three to 90,000 employees.

“We made the decision right out of the gate that Kolbe would be our foundational tool,” said Smith. “It is the essence of where we start with any individual or team.”

Smith and Slater received the award Oct. 25 at Conation Nation Symposium in Scottsdale, Ariz. The award was presented along with the Kolbe Enterprise Award and the Kolbe Founders Award, given to Dan Sullivan and Babs Smith, founders of Strategic Coach. More than 225 consultants and business leaders were in attendance to recognize and celebrate each of the winners.
